HISTORY CAN BE meaningful

Students value their history when they are familiar with it. Understanding one's past fosters a sense of belonging and enables students to grasp their place in the broader context. Come along for an engaging start-of-the-year initiative to help students recognize the significance of their history.

Who to write about ...

  • Pick a person that you admire and want to know more about. This could be a family member, a neighbor, or someone you know in your community.

  • Interview them, asking questions about their childhood experiences or how they survived past events. Perhaps they grew up on a ranch or had a unique experience living through a natural disaster.

What to write about ...

  • Plan a one-page essay using your interview questions.

  • Using the form we provide or other paper (blank or lined), write your essay in class. The time limit is one hour.
